I have a 1983 115 hp merc with power trim and tilt. While not paying total attention when re connecting the battery I reversed the pos and neg. Of cource I saw a small spark which reminded me that I now have toasted the battery. However after purchasing a new battery and hooking it up correctly this time, I have power to my running lights and horn but no starter or power trim functions are working. Any ideas about what I can do to fix the prob? Thanks...

Look around under the hood for a fuse and hope for the best.

On some units a backwards connect can be quite damaging.

Check to see if you have any inline fuses. You may be lucky only to have blown one or more then one. With diffrent systems not working it sounds like a fuses.

sorry ehve8r

usually the rectifier is not fused. The charging system (rectifier) is probably smoked. :(
