OK. Hopefully someone is very familiar with this model and can help. Mine will fire and start for a few seconds, then the check engine light flashes and it will crank but not fire. If it sits about 10 minutes, it will do the same thing... I am an ASE certified auto technician so I will understand any answer. I need help.

Question 1 is, How/what do I need to check for codes? I can't find much online about a diag test/scan tool. Is there a diag kit or software for a laptop, and then a wire harness to buy?

I tried a new crank sensor and that was a waste of money. No fix.

Can a stator do this? The service manual mentions something is different with energizing on crank and start up then at 200rpm is switches to regular mode.... That is what mine seems to do and why I am asking this....

In 2017 I had the EMM rebuilt and updated by a guy in GA. I suppose it could be that again, but have no way of knowing.

When it cranks you can of course hear the fitch injectors snapping and it fires up. Then after a few seconds when it will crank and not fire, you do not hear them snapping. I'm losing my injector drive for sure. I believe I am losing spark too when this occurs...

I hate to be guessing so I need to know how to scan or check the codes. Is there perhaps a way to check for codes by jumping something or using a LED?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully someone out there knows these like the back of their hands and can help me!

Cant help much with Kawaski specific trouble shooting but I bought this software package (runs on laptop) for my sea doo works very well. I think with the home model you are limited to 4 Vin numbers being logged in. Sam software as professional just limited on how many skis you can use it on

Thanks. Nice tool but pricy!
Yes especially if all you have to do is reset the throttle position sensor like I did.... unfortunately there is no other way on more modern engines if you need to check fault codes.

On my seadoo it looses the throttle position zero point over time so the fuel mapping is off. I was fouling plugs every two weeks.. one click and it works perfectly again.

This is a tough predicament to be in. From your exp, do stators act this way when they go bad? It's most likely the EMM.... Back in 2017 I had to rebuilt Advanced Engine Electronics in GA. The ski only has 100 hours on it and it's is like new. I hate to junk it as I like to take the little grandkids on it. I also hate to dump lots of money in something 22 years old. We've had it 20 years. All fresh water. Do you check and service EMM's? Am I just throwing good money after bad? Thanks for your help.

I have heard of stators doing funny things like this - maybe you can research how to test the stator and go from there. If you can find a factory manual likely will show how to do so.

Likewise sending the EMM out to be checked might be an easy way to rule that out shouldn't cost much or take long.

I don't think you are chasing good money after bad, really more of a choice if you don't mind the work ( I actually enjoy it) and how much the money in your pocket is burning a hole. Our ski is a 2004 with like 240 hrs also fresh water, I figure you could have the same or more i$$ues on a newer ski. 100 hrs is barley broken in if cared for-might need a wear ring and impeller down the road...

Hers a link to a search on testing your stator https://www.google.com/search?q=kaw...3j0i390l3.11234j1j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

of course you will have to weed through some BS ... but the first video with stator and CDI test looks promising
