I am wanting to check the compression on a 1968 johnson 3hp outboard before I give up on it. Does anyone know what the compression range should be? Thanks

Re: compression

No sure, but I was worried a few weeks ago about a 1960 10hp that I picked up that had 62 and 74 psi in the two cylinders. Ended up being ignition issues. What problems are you having?

Re: compression

If you get over 60 psi a cylinder it should run... more is better. And it's best if they are within 10-15% of each other.

If it's low, you can try a new head gasket or a de-carb.
