How does one do a compression test. Do you just buy a guadge at Autozone/checker etc and screw it into the spark plug terminal and rotate the flywheel? I have a 1977 Evinrude 115.

Remove all the spark plugs. Use a good, hot battery, put gauge in each hole in turn and hit starter for 2-3 revolutions or until guage stops rising.

Or, follow the instructions that come with the guage.

Also Autozone has a tool loan program whereby you put a deposit down on the tool and get your money back when you return the tool in the same condition as you got it. Comes in pretty handy if its a tool you're not likely to use often.
