I have a 87 Johnson/evenrude IVO V6 175 outboard. I get the following readings when I do a compression test.

Top Left 90 PSI Top Right - 90PSI
Mid Left 90 PSY Mid Right - 60PSI
Bottom Left 0 PST Bottom Right - 90PSI

As you can see I have no compression on one cylinder and a 30 PSI Variance on the mid right.

A shop told me I needed a new powerhead and wanted to charge me $3,300.00. I'm not so sure on these readings. However, I have no other machanical option left that I can do and little time. Do you guys have any idea what could be the cause? Do you think I need a new powerhead? Help!

agn,

A new powerhead-maybe. Why not rebuild the one you have?

At a minimum, you will need a total rebuild.

Don't know your circumstances but see my post under Wheres the compression? A decarb did it for me. At any rate it was $6.95. Sure wont hurt to try it.
