Re: Compression test procedure - simple question.

They are trying to keep you from getting zapped when the wires are off the plugs. It won't hurt the engine sparking while the wire is off.
Looks like it refers to the center coil wire to the center of the dizzy.

If you remove the center wire off the coil itself, the dizzy won't receive spark and you should not get zapped accidentally.

Could also pull the wires off the (+) of the coil and would also kill spark.

Thanks!
I'm fairly mechanically inclinded, so I feel like a re**rd asking these dumb questions....

If I pull the wire from the coil, will it not try to arc to some grounded part of the engine?

Take the coil wire off the cap and distributor and set it aside. Good to go!

Dennis, do you mean off the coil and off the distributor cap? If I do this is there a chance of arcing from where the wire is supposed to be hooked tot he coil to any grounded metal? What kind of potential are we talking about here... could it jump an inch? 4 inches? or just a fraction of an inch? I'm guessing we're talking high voltage, but low current, but not sure....

Thx

Take it off both cap and coil. Set it aside. Do your test. Good to go. Well just don't wet your finger and stick it in the coil.
