I have an old Chrysler 105 that I need to do a compression test on. This rig does not have a lanyard switch, so what precautions do I need to take so that I do not damage anything when I do a compression test on the engine?

I don't know if its necessary, but I guess I would pull the plug wires and ground them to the block.

Just remove all of the sparkplugs. It can't possibly start. And if you turn it over with the key switch, you're certainly far from the motor and you can't get zapped.

Some ignition systems can get damaged if you either short-out the plug wires, or leave them off completely. I always connect a spark tester when I do compression tests. That way I check for good spark at the same time. If you don't have one (and it would be weird if you did), put the sparkplugs in the wires and let them sit against the block. This is easiest if the motor is tilted. (There is a possibility that you could ignite fuel spewing from the sparkplug holes if the motor happened to have gas in the cylinders. That'd be unusual, but be aware of the possibility.)
