I hate to beat this to death, but I'm still not clear on this. I want to test the compression on a 1977 Evenirude 70hp outboard. I've done this before on jetski's and such as well as my E 150XP, so I know the plugs need to be grounded or you run the risk of frying the electrics.
What I am unsure about is if I need to ground the plugs with a jumper wire or if I need to do as a clymers manual I have says and disconnect the power pack to armature plate connector in order to disable the ignition system.
Does grounding the plugs with a jumper wire do the same thing as the disconnect or is the disconnect better? On the jetski's we used to just make certain the plugs were grounded, by laying them across the head, and run the test and it worked fine.
If I need to disconnect, I am a bit confused on what I disconnect.
Thanks, just trying to prevent damage...
