I am getting ready to purchase on line a used 85HP Force outboard to replace the outboard on my boat.

I had the person do a compression check for me and he got values of 45, 45 and 45. I know the values should be around 125 to 130 per cyl.

QUESTION: Is his values valid as he was turning the flywheel by hand (actually with a wrench on the flywheel nut)??

Do you not get the proper values unless you hook starter up to a battery and turn over?

and if so is the 45,45 45 a good sign as it is showing balance on on 3 cyl?

Also, supposedly the only thing wrong this outboard is no spark? I hope this should be no problem as it should be real easy to take the CDI? sending units off of my old engine---this should be simple right???? I think it is close to the same year as my existing 1985 85 HP Force. Can one tell the year by the serial number?

Please help--I may be making the purchase today
