2000 Nissan 25hp - 2 stroke

Well, I kept seeing this question posted but nobody seemed to have a number to recommend ... so I went out today and bought a compression tester.

Both cylinders came back at about 160-165 psi. Seems high but at least they match up, which the Guru recommended. Maybe its too high and someone will tell me my engine is about to blow. FYI that was a cold reading and the tester directions said to test it hot, but how do you do that when the engine won't run ! Arghhh

Re: compression on a Nissan 25hp

The number is unimportant as every gauge reads differently....Take ten different gauges and you will get ten different measurements. IE My superdooper, costs more than an expensive hooker, gauge might read 130 on your engine. My new POS, costs less than a chicken biscuit, gauge might read 110. My antique gauge from 30 years ago, it was a POS back then, might read 145. What your looking for on compression is failure and/or wear. It's likely that you would get an abnormally low reading on only one cylinder if there was a problem. Hence the "don't worry about the reading".
