I am going to compression test a 1989 Johnson 150 I am looking at.I have read all the posts on how to.They suggest grounding plug wires or pulling lanyard to prevent power pack damage. My question is does this year motor have a lanyard to stop spark? If not what do I need to buy and how do I ground spark wires. Thanks again John

Your engine should have a safety lanyard (kill switch) mounted to the dash if it's a binacle control or mounted to the control box. If you pull the lanyard out it kills the spark.

Senor Pullnit,
You can spin the engine without powering up the ignition stuff by jumping across the big terminals on the starter solenoid. Be sure to remove prop and engine is neutral.

c/6

hooty
