Here we go, So I finally got a good day to do the compression test and as I pulled out the plugs there was a liquid in cylinder 5& 6. So here is the back story. She ran fine last year and during the winterization process, I pulled the plugs and sprayed wd-40 in each cylinder. I also sprayed fogging spray in the card after the engine was off. A few weeks ago I pulled the carb to make sure all was good and it was. But yesterday there was a good amount of liquid in cylinder 5 &6. Plugs were dirty but showed no signs of rust on inside of cylinder, did have rust on outer bolt where plug meets block. While the Carbs were off I had a towel stuffed in hole and the engine cover was on and the boat was covered. This leads me to believe that was water which settled when I hit it with the Water Displacement - 40.
Engine is a merc 4.3 anyone ?????

Ayuh,.... My Guess would be the water came from the exhaust manifolds...

Re: Compression Catostrophy

Bondo- last year I saw h2o shoot out of the starboard side of the engine when trying to winterize. Finally got it started and saw no water, so I chalked it up to water in the starter but now I am scared. What Do I do?

Tell us how you winterized it. Did you just drain the block, or did you use AF and if so how did you get it in there? Was the boat covered up this winter?

engine ran fine all year. I winterized it by draining water by taking off all hoses. Then I poured antifreeze into all hoses until it came out of the drive exhaust from both manifolds. Please advise

Re: Compression Catostrophy

? would be what does the oil look like after running it on muffs until it reaches operating temp. This is where I would start. But I'm sure some of the other fellas have more options to find the root cause if any

Did you pull the plugs and drain the water from the block and from the manifolds/risers?

Re: Compression Catostrophy

Besides what Alpheus stated the use of compressed air to blow through the passages helps considerably to remove any excess water and poking coat hanger end through the drain plug holes to free up any debre helps. and then re-filling w/ A/F helps eliminate any corrosion this is the 1st year I have winterized without A/F.
