Compatibility of 1996 Mercury 150XR6 and 881170A13 Mercury Control Box

I have purchased a 1996 Mercury 150XR6 outboard with no controls. I then bought a used Mercury Control Box (RC 881170A13), which shows a manufacture date of 07/13/05. Control box has a 14 pin adaptor and another purple female adapter. I am not in possession of the motor yet, but want to be prepared for install soon when time comes. Does anyone know if the motor and control box will be compatible? The motor is oil-injected and I am not sure if this control box has a built-in horn. Will I need an adapter?

Call you local Merc shop to see what year they went from 8 pin to 14 pin...They do make adapters.. I have a 1998 Johnson that changed and I bought the adapter-$100...They also make an adapter to use Merc controller on a Johnson/Evirude motor...let us know what they say...........

XR6 has an 8 pin cannon connector on it, and several wires on the side. You'll need an adapter.
