So I replaced my impeller for my water pump the other day and figured while I had everything pulled apart I'd dig even deeper and replace more things that could use replacing. I decided to order a new Thermostat housing and replace that, when I pulled of the hosing I got a lot of rust particles out of the hoses. Is this a sign of a bigger problem or am I doing the right thing be replacing what I have. The engine is a commander engine but it's most similiar to the Mercruiser, so I plan on using this section of the forum for advice. It's my first boat so I'm trying to learn.

Yo Bondo. I guess If an engine builder wants to fail, then make me a dealer. I was a Commander dealer when they folded up in the late 80's. Just a ford engine with the later models having fancy stainless steel manifolds that leaked at the welds after a few years.

Was based out of Miami. Used the 302, 351 and 460. Developed a stern drive that could turn 180 degrees. Got to drive a test boat with one in 88 and you could spin it in its on length. It was butt ugly and they folded before they could go into production.
