As a starting philosophy, the rebuild of Lady Kay could be termed a "resto mod". 1982 was not an aesthetically mind blowing year in boat/car design. One only has to look at Chrysler's "top of the line" Dodge 600 to know what I mean. A face only a mother could love. Plus, there were a LOT of Starcraft built so I don't think there's a lot of historical value here. Now, I think the hull shape does have a certain timeless beauty to it. There's a Grand Banks fishing dory in there somewhere, both in functionality and in looks. Although I've never been on the water in it, I suspect the deep V will have reasonably pleasant sea keeping characteristics. This was the major draw for me to this boat. But the colors and the accents......... meh. So, all in all there will be a nod to the past, but it is NOT going to be a perfectly period restoration. In fact, I will be pulling some modern cues in there. (Like the outboard pod).

With that all said, I've been killing time in a hotel playing with color..... I would like to hear/see what others have to say about this, and what others have done....I've looked at 70's pictures and I've looked at the new boats.....

Trying to upload some pictures but I'm in a very low band with environment here at 30W......

if you go red, prepare to do a lot of wet sanding and buffing over the years as that color soon becomes pink.

Not that it matters, it's your boat,
but I much prefer the original colors to any of the versions you suggest.

On the other hand, after years years of seeing it, I've grown to like the ugly green color of the early 70's Starcrafts,
as it just looks right on a Northern MN lake.

Interestingly the wife likes the green too..... Not the most desirable color for an eventual resale though.... I have time to decide. First I'm trying to find a home for the OMC V6/outdrive so I can get the then lightweight hull off the stack and fix up the trailer....

Colors are all you, opinions are nice to have if their's a reason for their color choice. You'll have more chance of error with different colors, especially 3 colors. A base color with an accent color is what most choose as it's easy to pull off at home and looks good.

Some advice, keep everything in one thread for your Islander, otherwise things start becoming confusing when someone who is following your thread misses another you started. You'll stay in better graces with the Mods too as that's the way they like it, we've had guys start a new thread for every step of their boat resto, talk about confusing. ;)

Resale   :faint2:
