Does Johnson put a color code for the paint of the motor anywhere on the motor or motor plates? I would like to get a couple of cans of touch up paint, but would like to know it will be the right one before I order. I have a charcoal metallic 2001 Johnson 50 J50PL SIB model number. I looked here but didn't see it. Can anyone tell me where to look on the motor if they do list it, and if not where I can find the paint.

Thanks!

Can't hurt to try an Evinrude dealer. I just might be possible that the paint is still available. Does the motor have a nice, unfaded part on it somewhere? An auto paint supplier can color match it, and put a small batch in a rattle can.

I can't say for certain, but I think I read in my Johnson shop manual for my year and HP engine their color code for their paint. But don't hold me to that because it could have been for some other project I was working on too. But like F_R stated, any auto paint store can easily match any type paint like that as well. JMHO!

Thanks guys! Much appreciated! It is only some places on the lower unit that need touch up. I take it I can just take the cover to the auto paint store to match the lacquer. I am sure it is faded, but that would be OK as at least it would match.

I have found some charcoal grey Johnson metallic paint, but it says for 86 up. That's a lot of years to keep the same paint color. I guess one can at $10 wouldn't keep me from eating lol.

Thanks again.

All of these later model year factory exploded parts diagrams have a section for paint. Check out your engine at the factory website: epc.brp.com
The codes are listed along with all the major parts groups for all models under the heading: PAINT. It lists the Bombardier spray cans as well as a paint supplier code, such as a PPG paint code number.

Hey EMD can you order from epc.brp.com ? I went though and looked up various parts and saw where you can add them to a pick list, it has a small shopping cart emblem that adds items to the pick list. However when I selected print pick list it wouldn't print anything out just came out of my printer a blank piece of paper. I printed another web page out so it is not my printer or ink.

Or is this just to give you a pick list of part numbers so you can order what you need elsewhere? Have you tried to print out a pick list?

Thanks ! Great link.

The software at this website works the same as the software which the Bombardier dealers use on their shop computers. The software (parts lists) work on those dealer computers, but appear not be active when running on the normal web application. I tried to do a windows print by doing a CTRL P, but while the page prints, the pick list does not. Also, the internal dealer parts pick lists pick up the pricing on the pick list, which is probably not a feature on the open web software. The point is that the web application is driven off the same database the dealers work on. Keep in mind that the part numbers are original to when the list was made. They do not account for part supercession. You have to give the part number to the dealer to find what the current part number is-if supercession is involved.

Thanks EMD, figured out how to print it out. I just select the pick list with the mouse and then do a "print selected". Thanks for the great link, a good starting place for part numbers for sure!

In my Evinrude catalog, they list all the PPG colors, and part numbers for spray cans. I can email it over if you like?

BigB, I don't have a picture of my outboard on my computer only on my Galaxy Note, but no cable to transfer it. I have a nice Nikon camera, will try to take a picture of boat and motor and post it.

Overall my motor is in great shape, the more repairs I do to it, the more I realize that it doesn't have much time on it, even the inside of the lower unit and the inside of the mid unit were almost squeaky clean when I took it apart. The guy that I bought it from had in on a small lake, Investment, vacation type thing probably not very big. It was somewhere between St. Louis and Columbia MO, I have done Google maps and there just are not any big lakes between St.Louis and Columbia.

It was a weekend "whenever he got to the lake" fishing boat on a private lake. Apparently he was pretty good at running into stuff lol all the paint off the keel, and the prop was pretty dinged up. There was sand inside the water pump. My guess is small shallow lake.
