When I was younger, probably a Jr. High Kid, my Dad and I decided to go do a little fishing on a very cold winter morning and the wind was just blowing out of control. Most people would just stay in bed on a day this cold and windy, but not my Dad. We got down to the state park boat ramp and as usual, Dad handed me the rope and he began to back down our fishing boat. I'd done this many, many times but on this day it was below 32 degrees outside. As the boat slid off the trailer I began to tighten up on the rope and the wind caught the boat and started to pull. Ice had formed on the rope and it was slipping through my young hands. I wrapped it around both of my hands and leaned back and tried to get some footing on the dock, which also had ice on it. I began to slide towards the water and eventually just had to let go of the boat. My dad had since jumped out of the truck and was sprinting down to the dock to try and jump in the boat. Just as he began to run down the dock, he too, noticed the icy surface and slipped right into the icy water. By now the boat is halfway across the cove we are in just going with the wind. Eventually, it got hung up in a boat dock and we were able to get it back. Needless to say, no fish were caught on this freezing cold morning. Moral of the story, stay in bed when it's freezing outside!
