Please dont chew my a** for asking an automotive question here.I mean a coil is a coil, right?Been to a couple auto forums,Can't wait 24 hrs for an answer.Anyways,Pulled my coil to test and here's what I get supplied 12v to +,set coil on battery with tower about 1/4" from the neg post. When I touch the neg wire(from coil) to the neg post on the batt,no spark from tower, good spark from wire to post.Internally shorted coil?Gotta get this ***** back on the road for my guys(employees) so I can get back on my boat project.Gotta get her back on the water.Always something taking my time.Don't ya wish you could buy that(time)?? I sure do! Jerry

When you disconnect the coil's ground is when you should get your spark.

When you ground the coil, you are essentially creating a magnetic field. Removing the ground causes the field to collapse and that is why the spark is produced out the secondary.

It's also going to be a low KV spark too. Not a very good way to test a coil.
