Hey guys, I have a 1971 chrysler 707hc 70hp. It has a automotive coil. The white wire to easily just plug the tach to is cut in two spots. I know a tachometer counts signals per rotation( all makes and models being different). But if I just use the coil wire and an automotive tach, it will count interruptions. Only the old beast is two strokes instead of 4. So could i use the 6 cylinder switch to double the count???(it's a 3 cylinder) I Haven't purchased a tach yet.
I'm installing a tach to tune the motor again after this carb rebuild. It will be my second time tuning them from scratch. This time i will use a piston stop instead of a screwdriver to find tdc( i think the timing indicator has been tampered with, its slid to one side of its slots),and have a tach and water temp readings. I'm doing this because the idle was a little weak. Wouldn't die but it wanted to.... spudder and spit. But just a touch of throttle and it was great. Great motor. Lots of power!. Just don't like dropping the old girl into gear idled up. I'm also installing a water temp gage to make sure the thermostat is keeping a consistent running temp. I have checked the threads here and found lots of the same thing but different questions. Thanks guys
