Gents, what do you think? OMC 5.7 '89
Installed flame thrower coil. Have to remove resistor wire. Just wrap a 20ga wire from the coil to the alternator leaving the resistor wire in place but taping the coil end of the wire over rather than opening the length of the harness? What do you think ?

Re: Cobra resistor wire ?

i am not sure what you are speaking of. flame arrestor??? the only help i can give you is you would NEVER, EVER, use that small a gauge wire for anything marine or automotive that i can think of. the smallest i would go for a tiny stereo speaker would be 14-16 AWG. 20 is tiny and improperly sized to carry marine dc current. i hope that helped but still not sure what you are talking about with your resistor. did you mean in-line fuse???

If you've changed nothing else but the coil, just leave all the wiring alone, and just leave it wired the way it was stock, it will work fine.

Does the Flame Thrower have a built in resistor? Is that why you want to bypass the original resistor wire? Also if you do end up doing that I would also recommend you use at least 12 guage wire.
