cobra drive swap question

I have an 87 Bayliner 2550 with a single omc 5.0 and a cobra stern drive .. someone gave me a like new stern drive but its from a bigger boat with a 5.7 would the ( IF) different gear ratio be problem? Thanks in advance

You might get by with a prop pitch change. What pitch are you running currently?

On a side note, not sure why Bayliner often put small motors in such large boats. Keep this in mind when thinking about changing the gears in this drive. You may want them if you ever re-power to a 5.7L.

I am in the same boat got a new drive for a 5.7
decided to swap the 5.0 motor for a 5.7

Glad i did......because the old motor was ready to fall apart pretty soon

all the accessories alternator , distributor, power steering from the 5.0 will fit on the 5.7
sourced a roller block plus votec heads should give me a few more HP

new bearings rings gaskets etc and I got a complete peace of mind!
