Hello to all. Looking for your thoughts and inputs regarding a 1978 Cobalt 18 TH. Power is a Mercruiser 165 inline 6. Outdrive is a 165. Hour meter is broken, so hours are unknown. Stored inside and looks lightly used. Last used 2 seasons ago and last full service by a certified tech was 4 years ago. Asking price is $2800.00 for boat and trailer. Owner made 10 minute walk around video. Have done some research including calling Cobalt and Mercruiser classic. Looking for additional insights from you all.
Engine serial 3511661
Outdrive serial 4632438

My opinion, no charge:
Seems a little high for that old of a boat. It does have some interesting features, though they are aging. I can see where an owner/seller would want to say that it has aged well, but even taking the 1978 model year into consideration it is well worn now.

Thank you Maclin. I agree also on the price point. The cosmetic elbow grease stuff is also apparent and not anything too concerning. I will enjoy tinkering with those issues.
Did hearing the sound made when shifting from neutral to forward and then to reverse raise any red flags for you? Do not know what normal or otherwise should sound like.

All that seemed ok to me, but I did not hookup my bigger speakers. It is normally pretty loud when not in the water.

Could be an ok purchase, but I would look at it like a throw-away after a season, and see if that makes more sense on what a fair price would be. Right now it literally needs everything if looking at it as a longer term keeper.
