I recently had my Carolina Skiff fierglass reworked and the guy covered up my max hp / weight coast guard tag. What do I do? Contacting Carolina skiff is like calling Prez. Bush, DO I need a new one? How can I get one?

Two years ago I registered my new to me boat in Pa. I the paperwork required to transfer ownership there was a form to get a new capacity plate, the state provided me one. Go to a auto tag agency in your state, if you have them, and ask. In Pa it only cost me $5 .<br /> Dead Eye

Nothing like that here in Lousiana, then the Dept. of Wildlife&Fisherys don't even look at the boat when tranfer ownership.Insurance company is a diffrent story! You don't need it for them or USCG,its there just to let the owner know what the builder thinks that a boat cap is.Work boats don't even come with them, then again, they don't need to have floation by law per USCG.

I'd get one and install it and follow it. I spent a lot of time talking to the coast guard about this last weekend as I was taking my kids to boaters safety. What it boils down to is that if you exceed the plate and have an accident, the lawyers will find you completely negligent and 100% at fault in any incident. Even our states boaters regulations state that if you exceed the capacities on the data plate that it is "accepted evidence that you are operating your boat unlawfully".<br /><br />Props to you Skiff Meister for getting this fixed on your boat and shame on your glass guy for covering it up!<br /><br />Jeff
