After changing the bottom seals, I found the clutch dog and associated lugs (correct term?) on the forward an reverse gears to be slightly rounded.
I suspect an incorrect bearing carrier installation caused the problem, and has since been corrected.
Pinion gear teeth on all the gears seem fine.
My question is how long can this condition be expected to last?
Will they last years in this state, or hours?
Replacement gears are not that easy to find for a reasonable price.
Can a machine shop square up the edges and give me longer life?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Anyone having a set of forward and reverse gears for this motor, at a reasonable price, I would be interested
Original numbers
Forward gear C-43-31886
Reverse gear C-43-31887
Clutch Dog (Sliding Clutch Ratchet) C-52-34239
Mercury Motor Serial # 1869630, 1966 650, 65HP, 4cyl, 2 stroke
Thanks again.
