I have a 1999 mariner v6 2 stroke that I changed the impeller out of the it till wouldn't pee. I then took out the thermostats and it peed a little. I have it running on muffs and the pee stream it in and out and somewhat weak. Just wondering if the t stats are the problem and also there is a diaphragm looking thing on the water jacket that i was wondering about. Does it pee stronger in a barrel.

Often hose/muffs can't supply the same volume of water as a barrel or a a lake. Sorry I can't help with the diaphragm thing.

What is your engine s/n?

A '99 150, if that is the hp you are talking about has two thermostats (143 degrees) and a poppet valve. Get the s/n and I will get you the parts list and you can tell us what parts you are referring to. As well, I have the service manual and if you would like a copy, PM me with an email address and I will send you a copy.

Thanks for the reply guys! I'll try putting her in a barrel and see if that helps and the serial # is 5672026

Thanks

Marcus, A lot of those V6 motors have the telltale downstream of the thermostats. As long as the temp of the motor remains below the temp when the 'stat opens, there is no telltale stream. On a flusher device, at idle, the motor may never warm up enough to have a telltale. Do a water test with the motor in gear. If no telltale then, you have issues.

Hey Chris. I did have a telltale stream at higher rpms but it came in spurts. I didn't have any stream when t-stats where in so I took them out and it peed a little. I figured with them out that it should pee steadily. So with t-stats in and the use of a temp gun they should open at 143 degrees right

Yes, somewhere around 140*F. Poppit is a spring loaded valve that presurizes water against thermostats at lower RPM. When RPM exceeds 2000 or so, poppit opens allowing lots of cooling water to cool motor.

A better indicator of cooling is the gratings above the antiventilation plate and the prop hub. If you have water exiting there, the motor is cooling.
