Today a tornado went through a town not far from me and a few others on the board. The final path was estimated at 5 miles north of my house, the major destruction was a little further, maybe a 10-15 minute drive.

Tornado

Here the sirens were going off and I could see the dark clouds, but it just poured and we had some lightning and thats it.......thankful right now.

Yeah, I hear ya. Never get used to those sirens going off. I always get that little bit of adrenalin rush when I hear them. All too frequent occurence here in the South.

Dave

Had one pass a couple of miles west of The Hideout last evening. Watched the funnel cloud but couldn't tell if it was on the ground.

Makes you wonder if all your affairs are in order, doesn't it?

Re: Close call today

It sure does JB. Thank God no one was really hurt in this one, but it still is a reminder to keep life in perspective.

Its wierd now that I see my avatar......that lake is right where the tornado was.

I remember one night long ago when me an some buddies camped out in a back yard and a storm came up that blew our tent down. Had to go inside. Woke up to fine a part of a tree had fallen down on the tent, and a barn roof down the road had torn off killing a few horses.

Last year we had our 20ft flag pole broken in half from a tree branch that hit it.

Obviously nothin like a hurricane though..........which is prolly why i will always stay up here. :) Plus I like the cold

Bit of trivia.

100 years ago July 6 a tornado wiped out the city of Whitt, TX, pop: several hundred.

It never recovered. Current pop, according to 2000 census, 35, and it has never been re-incorporated as a city.

Thanks for sharing that JB. Those are the little facts that are always interesting to me. History can be really neat. In town here we have a restaurant/bar that used to be a lumber mill in the late 1800's. Lots of the old tools are up on the walls etc. Little tibits that ew people know are always neat to hear about.

Heres a pic of the tornado. It was on the local papers website.
Weather Service Tornado plot.
Here's the track of the tornado. That's Pike lake just off the end of the track. Glad no one was seriously hurt. The wife and I were in West Bend when the sirens went off. We got home and watched the storm track off to the south of us.
