Just got a clinton chief model # J91101B serial # 094147. I was a little put off to buy it as I'm sure parts are hard to find, but I got it for 10 bucks. it pulls easy, seems to have good compression ( I'll get some #'s tomorrow), and has good spark. was wondering if anyone know what year/hp? (I think 5hp) what is the oil
fuel ratio? and what kind of spark plugs?

also does anyone have a pic of what the fuel hose fitting for these looks like?

Re: clinton j9 info

$10 sounds about right.

1961 5hp. Based on the Clinton Chainsaw powerhead. Don't kid yourself, it is not "air cooled". The powerhead is air cooled, but the exhaust is water cooled and has a water pump to cool it. If the water pump fails (all too common because it is a crappy pump), the exhaust gets blazing hot and the powerhead thinks it is sitting on a hot stove and it overheats too.

When they were new the fuel mix was 1/2 pint of 30 weight oil to a gallon of gas. I would use chainsaw oil now.

Get parts from CEPCO (formerly Clinton Engines) 605 E maple Maquoketa, Iowa 52060. If you phone you may get info with contact info. Be patient. Ph 563-652-2411. FAX 563-652-3427.

Fuel mix is 4 ozs.per gallon after breakin.TCW3 rated oil is fine.
Water should mist out of the relief holes in the leg.
