Hi I bought a 2000 bayliner Capri and it runs and drives great ,the only issue is when I turn sharp I hear a clicking noise coming from the outdrive. It's a 5.0 mercruiser with a bravo one outdrive. The previous owner had the gimbal bearing replaced last fall so I'm thinking it may be the U joints. What do you guys think? If it is the U joints should they be replaced immediately?

It could be u-joints but before you go buy them, pull the drive off. After it's off check u-joints for play. Put you fingers in the gimbal bearing and feel how smooth it is. Next look at the gimbal bearing and see if it has been installed all the way into the housing, there should be no space behind it. While your in there look at the boots and check them for leaks.

Afterwards let us know what you found.

I am wondering when you turn sharply and hear the clicking noise, is this at idle speeds, or at higher speeds? Could you elaborate?

Thanks for the replies and I won't be able to pull the drive till next week. I hear the noise at both idle and higher rpm when I turn sharp. The gimbal bearing and bellows were replaced last fall by an authorized mercruiser mechanic so I hope it's not that but will check it out as soon as I have time.
