I have a late 60's model Johnson Seahorse 80hp. When i turn the key over there is a single click that you hear and that is it. The motor will not turn or anything. I thought it may have been the battery so i tried jumping it off with a car and the same thing. Anybody got any clues to what it may be. Thanks.

Re: Click noise?

You should here a click from the starter solenoid. Trace the large wire on the starter back, and you'll find it. If it's clicking when you crank the engine, and jumping the two large posts on the solenoid with a set of jumper cables causes the engine to crank, then replace the solenoid with the proper marine one.<br /> Starter diagnostic - Outboard Won't Start

try jumping the starter directly and see if she spins, if it spins then check your power wire from the solenoid to the starter if they appear fine and clean then i would replace the solenoid
