I watched it from the air years ago. Long story but a buddy of mine called and said a mutual friend is at Burke/Lakefront with his P51 Mustang but forgot his paperwork to be able to fly in the show and needed it flown to the show right away from our hometown in North-Central Pennsylvania. I asked your plane or mine and said he is in a hurry to get to Cleveland and back so he will get his plane out and be ready if I can stop at Bill’s house and pickup the papers on my way to the airport. Shortly after take off Vince who was the senior professor in his department at Penn State had a large outdoor dinner party at his home that he was hosting that afternoon for his department.
We were told even though the airport was officially closed for the show arrangements were made for us to be able to land. When we get to Cleveland and contacted show control at the tower they told us to go out over the Gold Coast West of the airport and establish a holding pattern. Vince tells me to set up the pattern and wait until we get clearance to land as he wants to sit back and relax for a couple of minutes. At half hour or so later show control tells us to get in quick as they have an opening. All the time Vince is looking at his watch and wondering if we will still get back in time for his planned soiree.
We give the P51 owner the papers and contact show control for takeoff clearance and are told we only had an OK to land and would have to wait for the conclusion of the show to leave. I was happy as I had nothing else planned and would be able to watch now from the ground rather than in the air ten or so miles away. Vince was not happy as his wife would have to host and entertain the guests for three hours by herself. Vince just passed away a week ago at age 96 and that day has been in my thoughts all week. To answer your question I have no idea if it can be watched from the lake.
