Just made reservations to be in Clearwater Beach next weekend...Thurs 12/2 thru Sunday 12/5. My wife is turning 40 and it's COLD in Ohio. Either going to be just the two of us or possibly my brother in law and his wife also. Would like to rent a boat for the day (Friday...her birthday....or Saturday)....or find someone willing to show us a good time for $$$$....lol. Boat rentals seem reasonable in the area....around $300/day. Anyone have experience with any of the rental places? As of now I'm thinking of using these guys:

We are a fun bunch (I can get references....lol). If anyone wants to show us around that would be great. Email me at tcgobucks@yahoo.com if you have any ideas.

I think there was a bunch of bikini clad chicks that ran a boat tour company in the area. They might have gotten shut down though :)

Make sure if you're going to St Johns pass to stop off at Cuban Paradise Cigar & Cafe to grab some perfect hand rolled cigars and the absolute best coffee.

I rented a condo there that was 9 floors up and right on the water in Madeira Beach. The Clearwater area was a blast.

Thanks for nothing......:D

You get me all excited about the bikini boat...then tell me it's shut down :(

I don't smoke cigars....and I don't drink coffee.....:)

My brother in law was just down there this summer and had a blast. I actually was joking when I called him, but he's pretty excited about heading back.

Those prices are pretty decent for a day out. Clearwater Beach is a blast and we stay across the bridge on Sand Key when we visit.

I was googling boat rentals when I was down there but I think where they were operating out of wouldn't let them operate there.

They might still be around. It was called smokin' em charters. They seemed very nice to me but I might be a poor judge of character. :)

Google it to see if you can still find them.

I go to Treasure Island with my wife's family every year. We go to Gator's at least a couple times, and there is usually lots going on there, decent docks if you are boating and a nice dockmaster. Beaches are awesome. We go to a place called the Green Iguana for dinner, Sea Critters is good (some of these aren't directly in clearwater). They just opened a bubba gumps in Johns Pass if you want a chain thing. Have fun.

The family and I have spent time on the Clearwater beaches. Last summer we spent a week across the street from John's Pass on Madeira Beach. I don't know how much beach time you are looking at, but If you are wanting to get out onto the beaches you might want to put a little distance between you and John's Pass, or any other inlet. What we noticed is that if the current and wind were right, when the tide changed all the muck that would wash out of of the inlets would drift right down along the beach turning the water a nasty brown color. It would clear up as soon as tides, current, and/or wind would change, but it seemed that pretty much every time we were heading out for some beach fun, the water would start to turn a nasty brownish-green color. On the other hand, we did see dolphins every day swimming along the beach and back into the inlets, which my girls loved.

We had previously stayed at Indian Rocks, and that was a great beach with really clean water (and some good shore fishing, I might add).
I can't give you info on charters or rentals, as we didn't rent a boat while we were there (the next best thing to owning a boat is having friends that own boats. Luckily enough I have several such friends in the Tampa/Clearwater area).
Good luck, and enjoy those beautiful Florida West Coast beaches!

-Rgds

I really like Madiera Beach and the beach in Clearwater was really nice as well though more populated...but I was there in summer.

I stayed here and the owner Matt was awesome...it's a minimum two week rental though.

Stayed in the same complex....looks like the other building. I think the rental rules are a little more "lenient" in December. I would guess there were no more than 10 occupied units in the entire building....

Unbelievable views...and a fun area. Can't wait to get back...

Took this pic from the balcony at sunset on Saturday.....

I have to check to see if my son is going to a soccer camp in NC this summer with his team. If they do then I'm taking the family back to the same building again and will be smoking a stogie and fishing from shore this summer. Lots of guys catching big fish right from the shore at night and early morning.
