I have a new (to me) aluminum boat with a noticeable scum line on the sides. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to claen thescum line off. It is a light brown color if that makes a difference?

Re: cleaning of aluminum boat

We're getting a new Lund aluminum boat. All of the hull surfaces are painted.

The owner's manual says it's okay to use an automotive cleaner or wax (liquid or paste) on the paint, but to test for abrasiveness in an inconspicuous area first. This assumes the paint isn't so new that it hasn't cured yet, but that doesn't sound like it would be a problem in your case.

I used simple green, full strength on my new to me starcraft. It
did the job nicely with no hard scrubbing. Good luck with yours.

I had a similar problem and use a product called "Toon-Brite". I just sprayed it on, waited 15 minutes and power washed it off. The boat is a 1974 Sears
Game Fisher and after the wash, looked like it just came off the production line.
You can pick it up at Boaters World or almost any marine supply store. I don't remember how much I paid but it won't break your bank and is worth the money.

To keep it looking good after you clean it, seal it with Sharkhide.
