A mechanic friend suggested I clean the fuel vapor separator on my my 2003 Nissan 50bTLDI. He explained the basics of taking it apart and cleaning it out but I can't remember the details of what he said. Does anyone know the best way to clean the float etc.? Is it safe to use a solvent or should I just use a clean cloth? Any special considerations other than the torque specs mentioned in the sevice manual? I would ask my friend but he is off on vacation and I am hoping to try the cleaning soon.

Just open it up you will see what you need to do, flush all the grit out with carb cleaner or brake clean and dry it out. Then put it back together, if you have a good filter there should not be much in it.
