My 1998 90hp Yamaha is getting kind of grundgy inside the engine compartment. I am hesitant to spray engine cleaner and hose off with all the wires, etc.

What's the best way to get rid of the grime and salt that is accumulating?

Re: Cleaning Engine

I also always wondered that. It wont hurt the wires? Also will the water drain out the bottom of the lower cowl somewere? And are you saying that you can spray a chemical in there to loosen crud up? I too am afraid with all the electronics in there. I usually use something long and put paper towels wrapped around something with rubberbands. I spray WD-40 all over everything from time to time to keep the corrosion down, is that ok also? I mean if its bad then oh well ive been doing it i just didnt know you could hose the thing down inside there. Thanks

Re: Cleaning Engine

you can spray engine cleaner you can do it on a car engine and look at all the electrical in there. spraying the wd-40 on it wont hurt anything I spry mine during storage to protect it and a couple times during season to help protect it from moisture. I also put dielectric grease on the connections

I use the "citrus" based procucts. They do not melt paint but they do melt oil and grease. I wax them afterwards.

I am a freak about keeping my boat(s) pristine.
