Are you talking about the mating surfaces? Removing old liquid gasket? Removing fibrous-paper style gasket? Not exactly sure what you are asking. Remove old liquid gasket or regular gasket material from mating surfaces with a razor blade. Take your time and be careful not to nick the aluminum. Use Brake cleaner and a terry cloth to get all the remnants, residue, and any oily film off for a clean surface before reassembling.
