Appreciate feedback regarding "how to" clean carbon off pistons while still in engine. Had leaky thermostat (evinrude 150 ocean pro - 1993) and pulled off cover and found a lot of carbon build up. Also, use pre-fab gasket or liquid gasket to re-seal cylinder head? THANKS!!!

Try products such as Carbon Guard, OMC Engine Tuner or NAPA Seafoam. Do a complete decarb- you can find<br /> this procedure in this forum- go to search and type in. You may want to also add these products to your gas tank on an alternate basis as protective maintenance. Some guys use synthetic oils on their 2 strokes because they burn cleaner with far less carbon. As far as head gasket- make sure there is no warping of the head itself- and from experience (my engine- yours may require something totally different) NO sealant should be used. Make sure to torque the bolts with the correct pressure. Re-torque after 10 hours of use.

Thanks for the advice! I have already used the seafoam trick twice in 6 months and the motor hasn't ran much - hunting season:) Guess I'll try and scrape off.
