Hi Out there,

Question - I have a fiberglass boat with white gel-coat on interior. I invited someone fishing, and he wore running sneakers with black soles on my boat. After we got home, I noticed that in the area where he was fishing, there were black streak marks from the soles of his shoes EVERYWHERE!!

I tied soap and water with a stiff brush, I tried hull cleaner with a stiff brush. Nothing. The marks fade a little, but they're still there. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

The best for that is soft-scrub ,the one with bleach works best but you have to be careful with it.When you are done you will need to use a wax of polish on it.Dont get one for super hi gloss.Get one with a cleaner in it so the floor does not get slick.Avoid anything on your floors except boat shoes and white bottom sneakers. I just used 3M hull restorer/wax to remove the black streaks caused by the bow stop. Worked great.

Also watch out for the "butts" of fishing rods, do not drag them on the deck. Keep them off the deck as much as possible.

I second soft scrub, soft plastic bristle brush, and some sun.

I occasionally get nail polish on the inside of the boat. What is the best way to get it off the fiberglass? And, while your at it, the white cushions?

I don't want to use anything to abrasive, its a new boat.

DBLD, sometimes WD40 works to cut those black marks.
Ladyfish, try acetone (fingernail polish remover). Try it on a place unseen first to see if it discolors your vinyl. And don't do your nails in higher than 1-2' swells, hehehe.
Happy Boating,
Brian

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I will try each of your suggestions and see which one works best. I have enough streaks to test all kinds of cleaners!

black marks come off real easy, just use an eraser. Works every time !
