Trying to clean the hull on my 72 whaler, before I paint the bottom. Yesterday tried some rubbing compound, it did ok, but looking to do a better job. What's the best way to get this looking its best for a a 38 year old boat? Could I maybe wet sand?

Thanks

Re: Clean it up

I used 800 grit (wet) to clean up oxidized gelcoat on my Whalers. Followed up with rubbing compound.

Re: Clean it up

Sorry for the thread Hijack.

What exactly is Wet Sanding. Do I take wet sand paper and start sanding away. When do I know I sanded enough. Im not needing to do this, I was just wondering. Sanding my boat would scare me.

Wet sanding is done with fresh water running over the spot being sanded. It prevents over heating and clogging of the paper.
