I am planning to drop my lower unit this weekend to change the water pump and my reverse locking cam I know is not currently aligned correctly. I know if in neutral, the top of the cam slope is at 12 oclock facing front of boat. However, i wanted to drop the LU in forward instead of neutral incase I bump the shifter shaft. I have a factory service manual but cant find anywhere in the book, a pic of the cam alignment. Anybody know if there is a pic or sketch of it in the manual? Thanks.

Neutral is easier to assure shifter alignment, this pic is from 1975-9 manual

setting-up your controls in reverse might be easier for you to re-install the LU. it won't bump it into any other gear position
