We just bought a beautiful old classic woody. It is a Crosby design from the late forties named Thero.

My wife and I have begun to do our part in restoring her. I intend to put together a small package chronicling as much of the boats life as possible for future owners (we're working our way to a forty footer).

Thero has spent most if not all of her life in the Gulf Islands area, but that is all we know. Does anyone have any info on Crosbys?

I'd post a pic if I knew how but ...

There was a Crosby that made cat boats. They were made in the northeast and I think dated around the 30s and 40s. Wooden boat mag would be able to tell you more.

Refer to http://www.dngoodchild.com/load_sail.htm for many boat plans and brief narratives, including some by Crosby.

William F. Crosby was noted for many good designs that were considered easy to construct on a tight budget. I would imagine that many of his boats were "homemade". The website above has a few of his designs including the 29' Sinbad Cutter (pub. #5346), 24' Hilaria (pub. #5394), Moth class skimmer (pub. #7792) and the Crosby 16 sloop (pub. 5202).

In the 1960's, my father built a Crosby "Pup" (pub. #7789), a car-topable plywood catboat that is a lot of fun to sail. Still a solid boat (given my fathers anal ways), its construction far exceeds what is typically found in a production boat. ;)

Thanx to both.

Is there any way I could post a picture with out having a website?. I haven't gotten that high tech yet. Someone might recognise her and be able to give us some history.

I understand there was a picture of her in a past Pacific North West area magazine.

The hull of the Sinbad looks real close; but the house works are much more of like Alden design.

Best guess so far is from some of the locals who believe her to be from about 1948.
