Was about to put a timer sensor on my 1991 Johnson GT 150 to cure #5 cylinder dropping. Dealer suddenly tells me it might be my stator instead of timer sensor. Please correct if I am wrong: There are three stator coils used to charge the capacitors since this is a capacitive discharge ignition system. If one of the coils went bad , wouldn't it drop two cylinders instead of just one? Your input would be apprieciated. I posted to you a while back with this problem and you replied quickly, I thank you for that. I've been in school full-time so I can only work on this thing when time allows, therefore the reason why you have not heard from me in a while. Shoot me an answer and I'll dance at your next wedding - I promise. Willis 3, ElDorado, Arkansas.

Re: Clanton: 150 Johnson

The stator has 2 charge coils for ignition system to power the power packs, 1 charge coil for 3 cylinders, if 1 ignition charge coil bad, it will drop 3 cylinders. The 3rd coil is power coil for S.L.O.W. and Quick Start, does not need this coil for engine to run. I just wealked in the door been fishing, and fixing motors, Your stator checked OK with ohm meter right?
