LoL pretty smart if you ask me.
Come cut my tree down for me and keep the wood, Lol.

Some years ago I got a new mattress and it's like $20 to take it to the dump so I put it on CL just to see if someone wanted it (yuck) Someone took it none the less.

I LOVE the "Cut down this tree and the wood is free" posts on clist!

They usually show a photo of a nasty/gnarly/ratty pine tree hanging well over the house. Like a $5000 take down job by the pros.

It could be viewed as smart...I will agree with you there. The wood is good for woodturning or firewood once dried, but a boat? I can't imagine anyone cutting down a tree and making a boat or a sail mast. Talk about people taking junk...we have bulk pick up at our house and I am consistently amazed as what the pickers will take...mattresses included, and in these days of bed bug epidemics, you've got to be crazy to take anything like that. My neighbor owns a trash hauling company and sometimes he will clean out an apartment/house. He will use the city to take the furniture (cheaper than commercial dump rates) and leave really old or filthy couches and such...sure enough, they are gone by morning.

If I ever need rid of anything(other than trees), just set it out on the side of the road in front of my house and some pack-rat will make off with it before the sun comes up!;)...I gotta admit, sometimes I'm the pack-rat!:D

I do that too. I'm just glad someone will get some use out of it, although I must agree I scratch my head at some of the stuff people want.

The only thing you can't get rid of anymore are CRT televisions, goodwill won't even take em! I left one out on the curb for a week and no one took it, used it for uzi target practice after that.
I saw a guy with about 20 computer CRT monitors in a big pyramid in his front yard with a sign that said something like $20 ea, good luck brother! When in doubt hand the garbage man a 12 pack and toss it in the truck.

That's how I acquired my li'l 1948 Sea King 1.5. She sits in the machine shed awaiting motivation to make her hum.

I love free CL. I've gotten TV's, fish tanks, a glider chair with gliding foot rest (like new), and other stuff. I got an old busted up propane mini BBQ and cut everything out of , cleaned it up, and now I have a small BBQ to take fishing. My wife sold the fish tank after cleaning it up for $80 and bought christmas presents for the fam with it. I've given away mattresses and other just. When I trim my apple trees and plum trees people pick the wood up in a heart beat for meat smoking. Anything I don't feel like shipping, I sell on CL.

3 hours later the dogs are barking telling me the rat pack just came by and yep, no more dishwasher!
I better back my boat a little deeper into the driveway!

Re: CL too stupid not to share...

some years ago I moved into a new house and converted the old one to a rental, naturally the water heater promptly died. I took the old one (only 2 years) to the new house and put it on the curb, it was gone inside of an hour.

My nephew parked his scooter too close to the trash pile on bulk pick day...yeah, they took it. I can't decide who was dumber.

Adding to the above. I put a chair out there the following bulk pick up month and asked my wife to sit there.

Didn't work.

The ad is only stupid to those that are ignorant of it's value.

Norfolk pine is a very desirable wood in the wood working industry. A tree that size would be worth thousands of dollars if the time and effort is taken to harvest and dry the wood properly. A 6" cube of the wood can go for as high as $25

I will send you his phone number ... ;)

Like I mentioned, the wood is good for woodturning. Not so much for boats or a sail mast...of course, Capt. Cook in 1788 thought it would be a great investment but soon discovered it wasn't a good idea.
