Circulating Water Pump Weep Holes?

I just bought a new Water pump for my 5.7L MerCruiser and noticed it only has a Weep Hole on the top and no weep hole on the bottom. Other than that everything seems to match the old pump. Does anyone know why there would not be a weep hole on the bottom of the pump? Does the water pump need two weep holes?

differences in manufacturing.... under normal circumstances that area is dry. when the seal fails, and the weep hole starts doing its crying thing, it doesnt matter where on the pump it is, it will start doing its designed job.

ScottinAZ Thank you for you reply!
As you can see from the picture of the old one it seems to have been leaking but I haven't had any overheating problems. On these older engines I have not seen a pump without a weep hole on the bottom. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause me problems in the future. Thanks Again!
