Hi All...
I've posted this problem on 2 other sites with no luck, so here goes.
I have the sterndrive leg (chrysler 300) of the boat for repairs
(the mounts on the case needed welding).
I've replaced the uni's on the drive coupling, had the slip joint seal surface
re-sleeved, and replaced the coupling bearing and seal.
The bearing housing is shimmed up and turning fine..
When I rotate the coupling in neutral, all is smooth and quiet.
Select reverse, again, all smooth and quiet, and the prop shaft turns in the
appropriate direction.
However, select forward, and the two crownwheels in the gearbox start to turn, (maybe 5 degrees) then nothing, like it's in neutral.
I'm trying to find out if there is a shear pin or key, or some sort of drive engaging mechanism, etc, and if parts are still available, before I pull this
apart.
Many thanks in advance if anyone can shed some light on this.
Henry.
