I have a Chrysler outboard model #557HG serial #7182. I have been reading here and other places online that this is a 55HP motor that may or may not be a magnapower. The cover I have for the engine says it's a 45 magnapower but the model # says it's a 55. How would I visually verify if it were a magnapower or not. I want to order some parts but know that this will effect many of the parts I may order.
Thanks for any help.

If the engine have a CD box (black) is magnapower.
if the engine do not have the CD box is not magnapower.

Thank You, mine would be a magnapower since it does have a small black box with wires coming out of it. Also how would I tell if I should do a impellar change. It is a boat I got about 6 months ago and am getting it ready for some fun. There is no warning overheat warning light but it does spit water out of the back of the engine. it is never a steady stream though?

There wont be a steady "pee" stream coming out.
You should however be getting more of a "spitting" out the exhaust.

I do get a spitting, however I am going to just replace it as on iboats it is a recommended part to replace and I have no idea what maintenance was done before. Talking to a local shop here they said I probably don't have a magnapower. The box I was looking at before apparently was just the rectifier.
