Chrysler inboards, v drives, shafts leaking

[Dutch Voyager]

I have a 1974 Coronet, It is currently on land and winterized, I want to replace the packing in the shaft seals, however when I took a look where the shaft goes thru the hull, all I could see was a rubber hose that looks like a large radiator hose, about 6 inches long and double clamped on each end. The shaft runs thru it. It is down tight to the hull. I have no idea about this can you help. I do have some thought but none of them are good. I sure hope this is normal. Thanks

Use GFO marine packing. It is soft and once set up wont leak like wax packing.
Really this can run DRIPLESS.
