Hi. I just picked up a 15' Lonestar Mustang runabout with a 75HP Chrysler ourboard. Model # 75671. I have good spark but the engine will not fire. I believe it may be bad gas as it has been sitting unused for a couple of years. Because I can not find a oil dipstick or drain, I am assuming this is a 2 cycle with a gas/oil mix. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and what the correct mixture ratio would be? I do not know what year this engine was built. Overall the boat is in decent shape and hope to get this engine running. Thanks...

Re: Chrysler 75HP questions

Welcome to Iboats. Your motor is a 1966 motor. YOu are correct the gas is mixed. You will need to mix it 50 to 1 using a marine oil. You should drain all the gas out of the motor and take the float bowls off all the carbs to make sure all the gas is out of it. You may need to rebuild the fuel system because of gumming and varnishing. If you need the rebuild kit numbers post it here and someone will help you. If you get it to start and plan on keeping it you will need to get a service manual for that motor. Not many mechanics will work on a motor that old. Finding parts is a challenge but you have come to the right place. Plenty of people here will help you get it running.

Thanks very much for the info. This helps a lot and hopefully I can get it running. I want to put this boat up for sale with the engine and trailer.

Re: Chrysler 75HP questions

In addition to eurolarva's excellent advice, I'd run the first 2 tankfuls with a 24-1 oil mix. Use only TCW-3 oil.
