I want to start off by saying this board is GREAT!
I just picked up my first boat a 1975 Chrysler 75hp (model# 757HB) attached to a 75 Sport Satillite with Chrysler trailer from the original owner, for a great price "FREE" he even threw in the trees and small rodents (he said it only sat for 4 yrs...ya right). Engine runs.... but needs TLC. I bought the Seloc manual, changed the L/U oil, Plugs, impeller, fuel lines & decarbed. What I need help with is finding the carb rebuild kit, fuel diaphram, distributor cap (is there a way to change just the wires)& possibly the head gasket. Itried all the local shops and tried to search the message board with no luck. I could really use some help and I'm sure you will be hearing more from me.

Thanks

Re: Chrysler 75hp parting out...

I have found parts for my Chrysler 75 hp a www.maxrules.com (phone# (850)-936-4231). They have carb kits for $15.00 each and fuel pump kits for $8.50. They also have ignition parts. Looking at the cap and wires on my '71, I dont think you can just replace the wires

Hello rottman and welcome to iboats. Here is a link for parts for your motor. You can get these parts at any mercury dealer. chrysler parts
NAPA has the fuel pump rebuild kit for 10 bucks. It is part number 18-7806. They may sell a rebuild kit for your carbs as well. They are problably 18-7037, if so they are about 15 bucks per carb.

Hi Rottman
I just had a look at the parts manual
for your motor. The dist cap and lead wires are separate parts. So you can replace just the wires. Unfortuneatly I don,t have a repair manual that covers this. How ever I am willing to bet it is covered some where in your seloc manual. I Know for a fact that changing the head gasket is covered.

Re: Chrysler 75hp parting out...

Thanks for the info, but I think I have another huge issue... I did a compression test yesterday and the results were not good...
Cyl #1 = 150
Cyl #2 = 80
Cyl #3 = 80 (also on cyl 3 I noticed a little water on the plug when I pulled it out and have alot of what looks like steam from the exhaust)

Could this just be a bad gasket. The owner said he had the head gasket replaced not that long before he put it in his yard to sit.

Should I pull the head and look inside. Me thinks I will today before I go any further.
Advice is always taken!

It's funny... even though it was free I feel like I should atleast look into a rebuild if it's really bad. Some how this motor has got me it's like a drug. Is it possible to get parts for a powerhead rebuild? Pistons rings etc.. Can I use any other year or hp parts.

Thanks again

You hafta pull the head...odds are it's only a head gasket, but pull the head and find out. Easy job and gaskets available...You have a great motor there, the newest of them old inline 3's is over 20 years old, and most are still running good...You should be able to find any part you need fairly easily still... :)

Rut Ro.... Is it bad when u pull a head look down and the cyl walls of 2 & 3 each have about a 1.5" crack on the bottom...
I pulled the head and that's what I found 3 was worse than 2 the cast was also chipped. I'm assuming the motor is junk, but saw on another site sombody had used JBweld to fix almost the same issue and had some luck (seems like a reach to me but if I can get even a little time out of it) I wanted some opinions before I part out the motor and get back the money I put into it.
Thanks all. but alas I think my time on this forum is almost over... :(

Re: Chrysler 75hp parting out...

I would say it is toast...I don't know what caused that, defective sleeves I guess as I have a block here that has one sleeve that is cracked, and on a block that looks new. I let the kids run this motor for a couple of years like this before I found a good used powerhead for
inexpensive. I found a marine junkyard in South Carolina that sold me a good p/h for 400bucks and 6 years later the motor is still in service...just a thought :)

Rottman, Sorry I can't see the damage from here. It sounds like the damage may be repairable. The sleeves can cut out of the block, and the block welded up, rebored and resleeved. Now my opinion is that the cost of this work would excede the value of the motor.

Re: Chrysler 75hp parting out...

Sorry about the post on Rottman quote. I'm having problems learning about posting on this site. What I really want to know, does anyone know how I can contact Rottman, member # 45806? I have a 75 HP Chrysler that may need some parts! It is an older motor, serial # 757HC. Thanks jps

rottman-dont know what you want to put into the motor but you can find used powerheads sometimes at a fairly good price. I have been looking for a 75 70hp for my johnson that blew and now am using an 83 75hp chrysler as it was cheaper than repairing the johnny(and this one even has a power tilt!) keep your eyes open. currently there is one on ebay for buy it now $300....might be worth asking some questions.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4536337348&category=26455
