Mid 70's Chrysler, I bought from someone that indicated it worked fine, big surprise huh? Engine starts ok idles smooth, moves boat at low speed but as rev increase, probably around 1500-2000 the engine stalls completely but will restart right away when returned to neutral. Any ideas.

"but will restart right away when returned to neutral"
Do you have use the primer bulb before you restart it?
What happens if you squeeze it @ 1500-2000 rpm?
I'm thinking fuel pump rebuild.

No,I don't have to use the primer bulb to aid in resarting. Never thought of using priming bulb at high revs. There was a clamp mising from fuel line to inlet of engine mounted filter/pump arrangement, could thia cause enough air to be sucked into the line to stall out engine. Unfortunately engine is now 300km away as it is at my cottage. I will probably buy a fuel pump here as parts are rare for that engine and probably impossible to find in the north.

Regards

Yes! Get a new clamp for the fuel hose. You have an air leak there. The fuel kit might be unnecessary. But 300 km away and an old engine... Better safe than sorry, right?

Nestegg, this is a long shot and may sound stupid. Somebody ran new fuel lines on my 70hp Chrysler before I got it. The first time out I would get into approx. the same range as you and the motor would die. Found out, only when I got home of course that the fuel line was run between the throttle stop and throttle linkage itself. When I went to accelerate, the motor would just cut out. The hose was pinched between the stop and throttle. Mind you, I had no more throttle at this point. Only enough to cut off the fuel supply.

Just a thought.

Dymo
