i am having trouble with the top cylinder not firing. the first week i took it out it ran like a striped ape. now it will idle fine and drive with a third of the power but the top end is not there. it will jump at an idle sometimes like it is trying to go into to gear. i took the flywheel off because i was getting a 12volt from the top cylinder coil from time to time but not a constant. amyway the points on the motor are bent alittle bit so the points don't line up perfect. i have bought new points for the engine but have no idea how to set them although i know it needs to be .02 gap. if anyone could help in telling me how to set the points and how the wires inside the flywheel are setup it would be great and if what i am doing is even close to what is wrong with it running on one cylinder. thanks nate

Nate. To do those points correctly you really should have a manual. If you have any large libraries in your area they should have one. My Clymor has pretty good instructions on how to do this procedure. If you cant find the manual at your library you can get one here at Iboats for under 30 bucks. If not go to this site and you can get an actual factory manual for your computer for about 15 bucks
http://www.geocities.com/thechryslercrew/

thanks for the advice but i already have a manual and it doesn't really clearify the steps on how to trouble shoot this problem nor does it explain exactly where on the camshaft you should set the point to .02. like with the boat at an idle or with the boat at wot.(not running of course)

You want to set the point gap at the highest point on the crankshaft. When you rotate it, you will be able to tell when it is at its highest point. Whether at idle or WOT doesn't matter for setting the point gap. It matters when setting the timing but not the point gap.

Shane
